Putting local success stories in the spotlight

With the Climate Star Award, we recognise the climate action work of our members from across Europe.

Sharing positive examples, highlighting success stories, rewarding local ambition – that’s what our Climate Star competition is all about. The Climate Star competition recognises the impressive and creative solutions of Climate Alliance members from across Europe. By taking part, Climate Alliance cities and towns have the chance to put their work in the spotlight, presenting their projects at European level.

Climate Alliance has conferred the Climate Star Awards roughly every two years since the first Climate Star in 2002. The competition and the awards ceremony are organised jointly by Climate Alliance Lower Austria and Climate Alliance Europe with the support of the Province of Lower Austria.

The 12th Climate Star Awards

Nominate a project or apply with your own!

From 24 August to 31 Ocotber 2026, Climate Alliance members from across Europe as well as networks of municipalies can sumbit their applications for the 12th Climate Star. This year municipal projects can also be nominated for the award. Submissions will be evaluated according to Climate Alliance’s guiding principles with a view to the longevity of their impact, their ability to engage citizens, their power to inspire, the resulting media resonance and the creativity of their approach. For this 12th edition, 16 Climate Stars will be awarded during a festive gala at Lower Austria’s Luberegg Castle on 29 April; all applicants will be considered for inclusion in Climate Alliance’s Climate Library.

The timeline

24 August – 31 October
Climate Alliance member towns, cities and regions from across Europe submit their applications online or get nominated for the award.

December 2026 – January 2027
Juries at Climate Alliance’s National Coordination Offices and European Secretariat cast their votes; winners are informed in early 2027.

April 2027
The winning Climate Alliance towns, cities and regions are publically honoured at an exclusive gala on 29 April, held at Lower Austria’s Luberegg Castle.
