CAIC25 | Climate Alliance International Conference

9 – 11 July 2025 | Cologne (DE)
As international climate frameworks falter and national governments increasingly divert their focus from climate issues, the task of advancing, delivering and inspiring climate action is falling progressively more to regions, cities and towns. In the coming years, the climate movement will primarily come from bottom up. And now more than ever, it has to. Combatting energy poverty, planning local heating and cooling networks, and adapting our cities and towns to a changing climate all squarely take place on a municipal level. But also when it comes to communicating with citizens on climate action, fostering the energy transition on the ground and developing global climate partnerships, cities and towns are drivers of the transition we so urgently need.
On the basis of best practice examples as well as failures and lessons they provide, the 2025 Climate Alliance International Conference (CAIC25) showcased municipalities and regions that are taking climate matters into their own hands.
During the conference's main plenary, in a variety of workshops, at a lively marketplace of solutions, in working groups, while networking and on excursions, participants from across Europe gained fresh perspectives on how local and regional governments are advancing, delivering and inspiring climate action now. With over 350 registered participants from more than 25 countries, a range of inspiring contributions from across Europe and invaluable connections, the 2025 Climate Alliance International Conference in Cologne was by all accounts a success – a space for collaboration, ambition, and shared commitment.
Let's keep the momentum going – advancing, delivering and inspiring local climate action both now and well into the future! #CAIC25 #LocalAction
CAIC25 was organised by Climate Alliance and the City of Cologne in cooperation with NRW.Energy4Climate, the regional organisation for energy and climate protection, and Kommunal Agentur NRW.
