Environmental Insights Explorer supports municipalities with comprehensive data of climate relevance.

Google’s Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) is a poweful data analysis and statistics tool. It uses exclusive data sources and provides relevant information for the design of sustainable and climate-friendly cities and regions. Around 40,000 municipalities worldwide already use the tool, relying on a comprehensive and reliable data base to strengthen municipal climate protection and local climate adaptation.

  • Building emissions from heating and cooling as well as energy supply
  • Traffic-related emissions from all journeys conducted within the city limits
  • Solar potential of roof areas based on solar radiation, roof dimensions and weather conditions
  • Shading and tree canopy cover throughout a city

Climate Alliance supports cities and regions

Climate Alliance has been an official Google partner since 2023 and has access to data from its more than 2,000 member municipalities. This places us in a unique position to support interested members in researching, analysing and evaluating Google data. In addition, the Climate Alliance is developing case studies to show how cities and regions use the Evironmental Insights Explorer and implement sound climate action measures.
