INTERLACE

Nature-based solutions for the restoration of urban ecosystems

Making cities more livable, resilient and inclusive is at the core of INTERLACE (International cooperation to restore and connect urban environments in Latin America and Europe). The project brings together a unique consortium of European and Latin American partners to promote knowledge and awareness of restorative nature-based solutions (NBS), such as the restoration of wetlands and rivers, as well as to foster more ecologically coherent and integrated city planning processes. In addition, it lays the foundation for sustained multi-directional cooperation and exchange between European and Latin American cities for wider transformative impact. INTERLACE thereby supports cities confronted with challenges like urban sprawl, climate change and pollution and shows how nature-based solutions can help restore urban environments.

Climate Alliance is co-leading the international city exchange together with its Latin American partners FLACMA and UNGL. The Climate Alliance member cities Chemnitz (DE) and Granollers (Province Barcelona (ES)) are part of the consortium. Climate Alliance invites its members to be part of the international exchange and makes available the results on restorative nature-based solutions to Climate Alliance municipalities.

Project funding period: September 2020 – August 2024
