Improving conditions of energy sharing through energy communities

Key policy recommendations for the EU and 5 European countries published.

The Climate Alliance project LIFE-BECKON supports a wider range of local authorities, energy agencies and energy communities in starting out or proceeding in their efforts to support collective energy actions. Based on more than 3-years of activities with demo municipalities and replicators, especially from Bulgaria, Denmark, Spain, Germany and Italy, the project developed a report with recommendations for improving public policies as well as legal and regulatory environments on energy sharing projects. These recommendations for the local, national and EU level cover three key domains that strongly affect the development and scalability of energy sharing projects through energy communities:

  • Collective self-consumption
  • Connection to the grid and cooperation with Distribution System Operators (DSOs)
  • Financial support and funding frameworks.

In addition, a report on replicators activities of the BECKON project is now available, describing the support package offered to the LIFE-BECKON Community of Replicators from 9 European countries and the development of the supporting mechanisms in their areas.
