ASSERT

Assisting people with physical impairments in energy poverty

With a focus on people with disabilities, ASSERT strengthens local capacities to combat energy poverty through a training programme

ASSERT empowers policy makers, intermediaries and persons with disabilities with the knowledge and skills they need to effectively address and reduce energy poverty through targeted educational initiatives.

ASSERT supports individuals with physical disabilities, who are disproportionately affected by energy poverty due to higher energy needs and limited incomes. Addressing their specific needs can break the vicious cycle of worsening health conditions, which is linked to poor housing conditions caused by energy poverty.

ASSERT also recognizes a critical gap: many key actors, including local policymakers and civil society intermediaries, lack the necessary expertise to tackle these issues effectively. To bridge this gap, the project offers a comprehensive training and mentorship program to build capacity and foster impactful action. ASSERT will provide tailored mentorship to five pairs of municipalities and intermediaries in each pilot country: Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy and Spain.
