NetZeroCities (NZC)

Towards climate neutral European cities by 2030

NetZeroCities supports cities and comparable local and regional authorities in realising ambitious local goals on the way to climate neutrality.

NetZeroCities contributes to delivering the EU’s Mission of “100 Climate-Neutral and Smart Cities”. This so-called Cities Mission aims to propel 100 cities across Europe, which are already on their way to climate neutrality by 2030, through concrete assistance measures.

Municipalities have known for a long time that they are and will be playing the leading role in achieving the climate targets and goals set within the international and especially the European policy landscape. At the core of those efforts stands decarbonisation, which is crucial for the well-being of the European community and the planet.

For the cities and practitioners joining the project as beneficiaries, NZC will develop a specialised digital one-stop-shop platform. This platform will offer, among others, collaboration spaces, a knowledge depository and specialised staff that supports cities in all aspects of their net-zero-journey. In the long-term, this powerful tool shall be offered to all cities engaging in this effort.

Climate Alliance supports the participating pilot and partner cities and is particularly responsible for organising the Twin Cities process. Climate Alliance is also involved in activities relating to innovative financing solutions.

In day-to-day business, there is sometimes not enough time to think outside the box. The NetZeroCities Twinning Learning Programme supports exchange with new groups of people and, in particular, looking at structures and projects in other European cities opens up the focus for new approaches.
