Tenerife becomes Climate Alliance’s 2000th member
Climate Alliance is honoured to welcome the island government of Tenerife (ES) as its 2000th member. The island council, known as the Cabildo of Tenerife, adopted the resolution to join the international alliance to support its climate action efforts. The move sees Tenerife joining the likes of Barcelona, Gran Canaria, Galicia, and Málaga in what is a growing Spanish presence within the network’s membership, currently spread across 26 European countries.
“Being a Climate Alliance member means taking part in a network of cities dedicated to climate action, working together with like-minded local and regional authorities, forming a collective voice that makes itself heard at national, European and international level and that defends, together with the European Secretariat, the interests of cities, provinces and regions – ultimately resulting in an enriching experience for all,” stated Blanca Pérez Delgado, Tenerife's Councillor for Environment, Sustainability, Security and Emergencies, on the decision to join the alliance.
As a member of Europe’s largest city network for just climate action, the Cabildo will enjoy a multitude of benefits including participation in Climate Alliance fora; enhanced access to Climate Alliance materials, tools and campaigns; heightened opportunities for collaboration and exchange with local and regional governments across Europe; and added visibility through the network’s advocacy work both at a national and European level.
