EU Regions & Cities Week: Financing Climate Action in Cities

How can financing schemes for climate & energy be implemented best at local and regional level? The workshop will focus on this question and aims at creating a unique opportunity to move forward on the National Energy and Climate Plans (NECPs).
For this event, the Climate Alliance project European City Facility (EUCF) joins forces with the Covenant of Mayors and the H2020 PROSPECT project. It will harness the extensive experience of the Covenant of Mayors and look at initiatives like the EUCF and the PROSPECT peer-to-peer learning programme to overcome the financial gap between local climate action planning and implementation. Financing local authorities' sustainable energy and climate projects is hindered primarily by lack of internal capacity to identify and implement financing schemes and investment programmes. How can cities enhance their ability to attract investments? In this context the key role of the EUCF in synergy with Covenant of Mayor and PROSPECT activities will be discussed.
