Dobbiaco Talks: What do animals know?

The Dobbiaco Talks 2022 will explore the fierce contradictions we get caught up in when it comes to our relationship with animals. On the one hand, we pamper our pets, on the other hand, we grill beef steaks for dinner. On the one hand we watch astonishing nature documentaries, on the other hand we know that most farm animals lead a miserable life until they end up on our plates. This is the broad field of animal ethics that plays a strange role in the sustainability debate; repressed and marginal for many, vocal and fanatical for (too?) few.

At the interface between two cultures, the Dobbiaco Talks from 1985 to 1999 and from 2005-2007, under the direction of Hans Glauber, took up crucial environmental issues, debated them and proposed solutions. The annual talks became a renowned think tank for the ecological turnaround in the Alpine region and beyond.
