Climate Protection in Public Projects

Mainstreaming climate protection in local planning

How can climate protection management be consistently integrated into planning and implementation practice in public projects? By integrating climate protection into municipal projects that are not primarily climate-related, previously untapped potential for stakeholder involvement and greenhouse gas reduction can be realised. The project establishes climate protection management in the public projects of six pilot municipalities as an effective part of successful project management, both within and outside the municipal administration. An extensive toolkit will be developed and tested, containing descriptive tools for identifying, evaluating and implementing climate protection measures as well as tools for workshops and participation in the relevant processes. The toolkit will be made available for a wide range of applications. This project is being carried out in cooperation with the Institute for Energy and Environmental Research Heidelberg (ifeu).

Project funding period: January 2018 - December 2020
