Matthias Nabholz

Matthias Nabholz was born and raised in Basel, Switzerland. In the 1990s, he studied environmental sciences at the ETH Zurich and then worked in various positions in the fields of disaster prevention as well as environmental and security planning. Nabholz left Switzerland in 2006 for South America on behalf of international cooperation. During his eight years there, he advised over 40 cities on environmental and energy issues. He has been back in Switzerland since 2014 and now heads the Department of Environment and Energy of the City of Basel. In this capacity, he is also chairman of the Swiss expert group on climate and the environment, to which Climate Alliance Switzerland also belongs.
