International Climate Alliance Conference & Climate Star Gala

A culture of local climate action ‒ Mainstreaming good practice

5 - 8 October 2016 in Krems an der Donau, Austria

For local authorities, climate action is increasingly becoming a must. Success in this arena requires us to rethink the ways in which we work and interact with one another, provoking us to appreciate the interconnectedness of areas we once viewed as separate. How, though, do we ensure that our municipal structures support our climate goals on all levels – within and between administrative departments, between different levels of government, between local authorities and their residents and even between different communities? How can we best encourage truly sustainable answers to the climate challenge despite the growth-based economic system in which we operate?

This year’s International Climate Alliance Conference highlighted good practice examples that chipped away at the structural, social and psychological barriers we face, shedding light on how local authorities can contribute to a culture in which climate action is mainstream.

The event was complimented by the examples of local level climate action from Climate Alliance members across Europe honoured at the Climate Star Awards Gala – a special occasion which, this year, took place within the framework of the conference.
