Serious Impacts of the Amazonian Waterway

11:00 – 13:00 and 17:00 – 20:00

This two session event explores the dangers of dredging Amazonian rivers as forseen in the Amazon Waterway project. Such dredging would not only alter the rivers’ natural course, it would constitute a shock to the Amazonian ecosystem and endanger the numerous indigenous communities dependent on this ecosystem. Indigenous representatives, Climate Alliance leadership and conservationists will share their perspectives. This event is put on by the Aidesep indigenous organisation and Climate Alliance. It takes place in parallel to this year’s Subsidiary Body for Scientific and Technological Advice (SBSTA), one of the most important preparatory meetings in the lead up to the Climate Summit.
