The benefits of signing

Good reasons to get involved

Many Climate Alliance members are also signatories to the Covenant, with good reason. Climate Alliance members have already made and are working toward voluntary commitments on climate change in line with and in many cases exceeding those of their own national governments. Covenant signatories become part of a movement officially endorsed and supported by EU Institutions. Providing support for climate action planning, the Covenant is also a channel through which local authorities can help shape EU policy on climate and energy. Other benefits include enhanced access to EU funding reserved for signatories, strategic partnerships with relevant national and regional stakeholders, third party evaluation of climate and energy action plans via the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre as well as access to a number of helpful tools and examples.

Climate Alliance members having signed on to the Covenant have many additional advantages.

  • Climate Alliance members get added support in reaching their targets with Climate Alliance tools, methods, campaigns, working groups and more.
  • Climate Alliance’s strong involvement in the Covenant means member examples gain even more visibility in Covenant-related talks with EU Institutions and presentations to other Covenant signatories.
  • Climate Alliance members are invited to give direct feedback on Covenant tools such as the interactive guide to EU funding or the Covenant reporting and monitoring framework. As such, they help ensure the Covenant and its tools are better tailored to their needs and expectations.
