Press release April 24th 2009 The RES Champions League, a renewable energy competition between European cities and municipalities, has officially been launched in Brussels on April 23rd 2009 during the Joint Annual Rendezvous of Climate Alliance and Énergie-Cités. Every city and municipality can join the RES Champions League. Participation is free and just one click away. Solar (photovoltaic and thermal) and wood (heat) installations are considered. How is the ranking established? It is based on installed power (or area) per inhabitant. In addition to the general ranking, in which all cities, towns and villages compete, three divisions have been established upon the number of inhabitants:
How to participate in the competition? Different players can engage their city or municipality in the competition: elected representatives and technical staff of of the local authority, renewable energy producers and installers, energy agencies, NGOs and even individuals! Why participating? In order for cities and municipalities to compare their efforts and achievements with others at local, regional, national and European levels - just for fun!
